First, you have to vet a hire to some degree to make certain he won't leave almost immediately. The search staff and board of curators did a terrible job with that on Mack Rhoades, and consequently Rhoades and KA did a terrible job with that on Corey Tate. If we actually believe Tate left because he missed his family in St. Louis, we should have known that. Of course, the actual reason he left was that he knew his job would almost certainly be vacated at the end of this season and left for job security. Next, if you are going to hire an assistant basically for the lone reason that he has some recruits "in his pocket" you'd better make sure he actually does or instead hire someone with actual coaching credentials. It appears another reason he left was that he actually does have some guys "in his pocket" but couldn't get them to Mizzou, whereas SLU looked better. Tragic.
