It could certainly happen next year if we make a similar attempt, we absolutely have the resources available.

Once again, University of Missouri athletics operated in the black last year, producing a surplus of $4,358,620 for the 2014-15 fiscal year.
MU hauled in a school-record $91,217,778 in revenue, up from $83,718,587 the previous year, an increase of 9 percent, despite drops in ticket sales, donations, royalties and camp revenue.
“In addition to those (reported) numbers we had about $3 million in capital gifts that we tucked away for these projects that we have coming up,” he said.
With those capital gifts factored into Mizzou’s revenue total, the department’s surplus is actually greater than $7 million, Hickman said.
For men’s basketball, Mizzou spent 27.8 percent less on Anderson’s first-year salary and benefits ($1,306,508) than it paid Frank Haith the previous season ($1,809,233), but staff pay increased 7.7 percent to $914,939.

So even despite overwhelming apathy and atrocious attendance, the resources are there. This is a non-profit entity. We are not going to distribute a dividend to our fans, nor are we going to build a second basketball arena. By committing the resources, a substantial increase in revenue to more than offset that commitment will result. MU is not atypical from all other major institutions in having an inability to hire candidates or use extremely atypical methods of selection. If MU pays anything less than $2 mil for our next coach that should be considered negligence. Most likely, we are going to have to significantly overpay to compensate for the mistakes of the past.
