MU announces freshmen enrollment on the first day of classes -- officially 1400 fewer this year than last. But they hold off on full enrollment numbers until the 3rd week of the year. So if you're comparing a number released today to one for last year, understand that you could be compariing to last year's total enrollment number that was counted in the 3rd week.
From the Trib:
Total first-day enrollment was 32,777, compared to last year’s record of 35,050, a difference of 2,273. MU leaders had projected an overall enrollment drop of as much as 2,600. Basi said it’s too early to tell whether the enrollment drop will be less than expected or how the smaller decline with affect operations.
“Obviously it will help, but we won’t have official figures until mid-September or early October with specific details about students who have enrolled,” he said.
Good news is that MU's rentention rate remains historically high and incoming ACT scores remain historically high as well.
