An outside investigation of the Mizzou athletic department to determine if the investigation conducted by Rhoades was warranted in the first place and executed properly and fairly in an unbiased manner.
That was a great line in Walljaspers column, saying that this university and this athletic department has not earned the public trust on that issue. I give him credit for that.
First, I'd like to see the 'outside persons' who made complaints about EE made public. Not their allegations. Just list their names. That wouldn't violate any university privacy laws, because those persons were outside of the university. Presumably ex-players and/or their families. Maybe the MO State coach, or the ex NFCA head whose husband was fired by Mizzou years ago. Heck, I'm just guessing wildly. But I'd like to see them identified, whoever they are. Ask that question please, local (Missouri) media. I think every supporter of the Mizzou softball program would like to know who from completely outside of the university was involved in trying to take EE down.
Then investigate the investigation. If for nothing else than to identify if mistakes were made that the Mizzou AD could learn from. Interview Mack under oath. He may need to be extradited from somewhere in Texas. Interview them all under oath, the 3 women who conducted the 'interviews/interrogations', Hickman and Reesman, and anyone else who had anything to do with planning and conducting the investigation. Have an independent person listen to every tape recording of every player and coach interviews, to determine who was lying, the girls who say they were bullied and harassed and intimidated, or Mack and current AD staff who insist the investigation was an unbiased and fair search for the truth. And have never lifted a finger to look into those complaints by the girls. Their lack of concern towards reported verbal abuse of certain softball players is astonishing. Then, review every public statement Mack made and determine if those statements met the spirit and letter of university policies to not give out information about personnel matters.
That's an investigation I will truly support.
