Simply because Team X has the 22nd-ranked recruiting class in 2018 does not mean that the squad will be the 22nd-best team from that point on.
This is true but if you are getting the 22nd ranked recruiting class year after year, I think your odds of being a top 25 team are much higher than if you are getting a class ranked 50th year after year. Recruiting rankings aren't infallible. But they give you a pretty good approximation of how good a player is. In P5 basketball, a top 25 player is going to be really good at some point in his college career 95% of the time. A 200+ ranked kid will be really good at some point in his college career about 10% of the time.
