SANTA ANA – A San Clemente man was charged Wednesday in a fatal traffic collision that two days before killed a 10-year-old girl and seriously injured her father and her sister.
Adam Kanas, 36, was charged in Orange County Superior Court with one felony count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated with a prior conviction, and three felony counts of driving under the influence of drugs causing bodily injury.
Kanas has a prior conviction for driving under the influence in March 2015 in Los Angeles County, according to court documents.
Kanas is scheduled to appear in court today. He was being held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
Authorities said Kanas was allegedly speeding and making unsafe lane changes in a 2013 Tahoe when he swerved into the carpool lane and struck the rear of a 2015 Tesla near the Seal Beach Boulevard exit on the northbound I-405 freeway.
The impact sent the Tesla, carrying Kendra Geddis, 10, her sister Kayla Geddis, 13, and their father, Don Geddis, 49, all of Hillsborough, into the rear of a Honda Civic.
Kendra Geddis was killed, while her dad and her sister were seriously injured.
Kanas and the driver of the Honda Civic were not hurt, the California Highway Patrol has said.
