West Virginia's plays a 3-3-5. In my opinion, they're geared to stop the pass first in the offensive minded Big 12. They disguise a lot of blitzes from their base defense.
We will run the ball with at least three backs, two of them beefeaters, early and often. I'd love it if Strong was also in the mix, but I'm not sure about that at this point. When we see them crowding the box, it will create one-on-one matchups in the passing game. We'll also see Zanders getting reps to create mismatches on the read option.
West Virginia will run and pass blitz early and often to test our offensive line and blow up our plays. Lock (and Heupel) will have to recognize what they're doing and respond accordingly, or we might have a miserable day. The line needs to at least slow them down. It is so trite but it's also so true that we must run the ball effectively to win.
If I'm correct, we'll see some mistakes on the part of the WVU defense and we'll have open receivers. Lock has to make them pay by hitting open guys in the secondary.
WVU will score some points, but I love our defense and think we'll have a good one again. This will likely be a 24-21, 21-17 type of game. Strength against strength, if we play to our capability, I think we'll win.
