A more rational conspiracy theory is that the GOP is simply rigging/throwing the election because Hillary won't disrupt business as usual in Washington, where basically all politicians are in on the scam; and that Trump is just some collateral bozo who got into the mix.

That being said, I believe that Trump is very intelligent; and also a very charismatic and competent leader, who likely has a history of making deals, but also of manipulating people, saying what he needs to say to get ahead, and probably also scamming folks, if necessary, to get ahead in life. He could probably beat Clinton if he did all of the above; but he either refuses to do so or for some reason cannot do it properly, despite the fact that his advisors are telling him exactly what to do and how to act.

So, I think it's one of those two things. If Trump hasn't made a deal to throw it, the GOP most certainly has.
