I am arguing conference affiliation is largely a non factor in recruiting for MU. It would be recruiting at about the same level if it were in the SEC, B12 or B10. I just remember reading how everybody wanted to play in the SEC and Mizzou's mere presence in the league was going to explode recruiting and that Midwestern kids would flock to MU because of its Midwestern proximity to mom and opportunity to play in the big, bad SEC. All I have seen to date is more of the same. Fighting it out to get the areas best to go to MU while scouring the nation to get lightly recruited guys from anywhere (with a focus now on those types in the SEC footprint since we can tell them momma can still see them on occasion). MU sure as hell cant just flaunt SEC membership and get area guys.
Th school and people matter most. And that's where last school year was a real disaster. But even before that, recruiting levels in the SEC were B12 level.
I am hopeful Sterk and BO can at least steady things to keep MU competitive. MU is in a tenuous position and the program can stay solid, if not particularly great, or go full Woody.
