Underclassmen. I don't agree that it's a high-risk approach. Not if it's executed correctly. Having a few top-tier athletes who can play early is great, but a team full of them will make mistakes. Pinkel's success was built on maturing kids who would take care of the football on offense and ball-hawk on defense. A senior offensive lineman might do just fine against another team's five star freshman defensive end. But I agree with you that it will be next to impossible to win a national championship with this approach. Winning a natty simply requires a lot of elite athletes. Maybe we could have a year where absolutely everything comes together and we win the SEC, which automatically puts us into the playoffs. It's possible, but we simply don't have the same depth as elite teams like Bama and Ohio State do to weather a lot of injuries and attrition. Everything would have to come together in a perfect storm for us to make it through the playoffs, and I just don't see that ever happening. I hope I'm wrong. But even if I'm right, there's a lot this team can do to make me proud.
