that raise the odds a bit above just a random guess.

1. Her server was less secure than that of the DNC.

2. Her server was a far more valuable target, especially to other governments, blackmailers, or even hackers vying for bragging right, among others.

3. She used mobile computers/tablets while on official trips abroad despite being told how extremely vulnerable they were.

4. There were known attacks on her server.

5. Some security experts had said that the odds that she was hacked, especially on those trips abroad, were very high.

---

There were also rumors early on that Putin had hacked her server, and perhaps China as well.

There were rumors that the FBI was going to ask Putin if he had any of her emails that he would share with them in their investigation.

As a side note: It's possible that the FBI did have enough evidence to have her indicted but backed off because of political pressure &/or the upcoming election etc.

There were ongoing rumors that FBI agents felt they had nailed her already, just from the evidence they had already uncovered. They also gave immunity to several people in her department, which indicates that some of them must have felt they were at risk of going to jail for things that they had done. Others plead the 5th amendment many times for the same reason when they were being deposed. One plead the 5th 125 times as I recall.

The FBI took the somewhat unusual step at the end of the investigation making the agents sign non-disclosure agreements, with the threat of lie detector tests at any time if they were suspected of leaking anything, and criminal penalties if they did. It wasn't unprecedented, but still unusual. There had been rumors before that that some of the FBI agents were upset that she was going to walk when they felt that was a travesty of justice.

It's possible the hacker(s) were reluctant to release what they had, but when they saw how crooked the "Justice" Department and the FBI were they decided that they would reveal the truth to the general public.

I guess we'll see.
