and then passing them along had nothing to do with the crisis?

Banks never made those loans before they were strong armed by the Clinton administration and never would have if they had not been given public assurances.

They were bad business. Banks do not stay in business long making bad business decisions unless they know those decisions cannot come back to harm them.
