MU opens the season with a very difficult opponent in Xavier

Looking back, these are the season opening losses MU has suffered since the 1960's:

2014-15: UMKC 69-61…..finished 9-23
2005-06: Sam Houston State 80-77…..finished 12-16
1999-00: Wisconsin 66-55…..finished 18-13
1990-91: Rutgers 68-60…….finished 20-10
1983-84: N. Carolina 64-57…..finished 16-14
1980-81: Arkansas 81-73……finished 22-10
1976-77: SIU-Carbondale 68-55…..finished 21-8
1973-74: SMU 77-73…..finished 12-14

The 80-81 team is the only one that went on to make the NCAA tourney (losing to Lamar in the opening round) although the 90-91 team did earn a bid but was not eligible due to probation.

No Tiger team since 1965-66 has ever lost its first 2 games of the season to start 0-2.
