The purpose of the convention is 4+ days of carefully crafted, constant coverage of the party platform and stories about how great the dear leader really is (the Dems will tell us how down to earth Hillary is in private).
If you lose that opportunity, you lose momentum.
Republicans revealing they want to repeal Glass Steagall should be all over the news and providing them a massive boost today - it isn't. Drudge doesn't even have it on his front page.
