Football. FWAA Gives Mizzou's Shane Ray His Fourth All-America Honor

Just hours after being named a First Team All-American by both the American Football Coaches Association and The Sporting News, Mizzou junior DE Shane Ray (Kansas City, Mo.) was named a First Team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) on Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 17). The FWAA honor gives Ray First Team All-America distinction from four of the major five All-America teams. He was a consensus pick earlier this morning and is Mizzou's second consensus All-America pick in as many seasons after Michael Sam was a unanimous pick a year ago.

Track. Dr. Rick McGuire Honored with the 2014 George Dales Award

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Dr. Rick McGuire was recognized for his contributions and life long commitment to the profession of coaching with the 2014 George Dales Award, one of the USTFCCCA's (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) most prestigious honors. Presented on Tuesday (December 16) at the USTFCCCA Convention in Phoenix, Ariz., the award is a salute to Dr. McGuire's pioneering work in the sports psychology field, as well as his immeasurable accomplishments as the head coach of the Mizzou Track & Field program for 27 years (1983-2010).

Wrestling. Houdashelt Awarded MAC Wrestler of the Week

Tiger Style redshirt senior Drake Houdashelt was named the MAC Wrestler of the Week for Dec. 8-14, as announced today by the Mid-American Conference (MAC) office. The O'Fallon, Mo. native is coming off an outstanding weekend, as he recorded two victories over Top-10 opponents.

W. Volleyball. Carly Kan Named AVCA Honorable Mention All-American

Mizzou sophomore outside hitter Carly Kan (Honolulu, Hawaii) has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Honorable Mention Team, as announced by the AVCA on Wednesday (Dec. 7). This is the second consecutive year that Kan has been named Honorable Mention All-American. Kan's All-America nod this season gives Mizzou 13 All-America selections since Wayne and Susan Kreklow took over the program in 2000. Kan is the first player in program history to be named an All-American as both a freshman and a sophomore.

Football. Shane Ray Earns All-America First Team from AFCA, Sporting News

Mizzou junior defensive end Shane Ray (Kansas City, Mo.) has been named to both the American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA) and The Sporting News All-America First Teams, as announced by both the AFCA and Sporting News on Wednesday (Dec. 17). Ray is now a Consensus First Team All-American after landing on three of the four All-America First Teams that have been released. In addition to the AFCA and The Sporting News, he earned first team distinction from the Walter Camp Foundation last week. He was an Associated Press All-America Second Team selection yesterday as well.
