This psycho was obsessed with killing children and knew where that would be at that time. How would the result have been different if he had just tossed four or five Molotov cocktails into the sanctuary?

For about ten bucks with no real knowledge he could have had the same results. For few bucks more with a little research he could have created some napalm and really went to town.

Guns are just convenient; remove them and evil people just switch to a different tool.
