Ozempic's manufacturer, Novo Nordisk, is willing to slash its price in half to $500/month to users paying for the drug out of pocket and not using insurance. But if you have insurance, the monthly cost will be $1000.

So where does that additional $500 go in the supply chain? Are there $500 in fees to process the insurance coverage? Or is someone getting a kickback out of the additional $500 markup?

The supply chain is exactly the same so the pharmacy isn't pocketing an additional $500.
