Do you want me to explain it better than You? It was the Ojibwa not Chippewa. But that group never left Minnesota. Sioux are still there and remained there aways. All part of a group called Seven Council Fires. The term Dakota means friend or ally and moved west but are not the Lakota which the Hunkpapa, Oglala, Sans Arc which were further west. Have you ever heard of the Santee river in south Carolina? The Santee is of the Dakota group. The Santee were pushed West by White settlements and Soldiers ( The Dakota wars of 1862) This actually scared white people and pressure on all Indians in that area including the Northern Cheyenne.
