The consequences delivered to David by the prophet Nathan, as told in 2 Samuel 12, include:

The death of the first child: The infant conceived by David and Bathsheba fell ill and died, despite David's fervent prayers and fasting. This was the immediate price for David's transgressions.

Conflict and violence within his family: Nathan foretold that "the sword shall never depart from your house". This prophecy was fulfilled through years of betrayal and violence among David's children, including the rape of his daughter Tamar by her half-brother Amnon, and Absalom's murder of Amnon.

Public humiliation: God promised that David's wives would be taken by another man and sleep with them publicly. This came to pass when David's son Absalom publicly lay with his father's concubines during his rebellion, a fulfillment of the divine judgment.

The biblical account highlights that even though God's forgiveness can be granted, the effects of wrongdoing can have lasting repercussions.
