Historical connections. Had they not been a founding member of the SEC they wouldn't be a power school. Same with northwestern. kU doesn't have that luxury. Not only that but you don't see vandy fans puffing out their chests and claiming their stadium is on par with the big boys either. kU was wise to reduce capacity and add amenities but their fans and media should acknowledge that they are competing for top mid major talent not with the big boys
