They claim "conventional bombing" combined with a naval blockade of Japan would have been enough to force surrender

How many died in Tokyo from "conventinal bombing" on March 9-10, 1945? More than the bombing of either Hiroshima or Nagasaki.

How many would have died from starvation from a naval blockade of Japan? The blockade explicitly aimed to cut off food supplies and kill millions of Japanese, mostly civilians, from starvation.
