They have two ways of getting power in a two party system.
Get people to vote for them, or get people to vote against them.
In the rare case, do you have where a politician becomes a bit more of a "visionary" and people flock to vote for them. That would be Reagan, Clinton, Obama, and Trump. But even with each of them, the attraction waned over time.
