opponents and the public's prurient curiosity forced the DOJ into a corner. Maxwell's attorney tried to leverage the media drumbeat into a pardon or clemency in exchange for an interview with Maxwell. That was never going to happen. There has been no confirmation, but it isn't unreasonable to suspect her transfer to a moderately more comfortable prison environment was her reward for the interview. Reportedly, no actionable evidence was developed from the interview. IOW, it was all a show to quench media thirst. And now we move on to the next non-scandal.
