That's funny. We kept a hundred or so laying hens at Grandma's farm. Her farmstead was on a moderately traveled highway. Grandma turned out the hens early every morning to forage in the cattle pastures and livestock lots. She gathered the eggs and sold them to neighbors and travelers. Once in a while a hen would get hit on the road. One of my boyhood farm chores was to pick up and dispose of the carcass. I was eager to get the job done before the dead chicken got ripe. IMO, the only dead animal that smells worse than a chicken is a ripe coon.
