the right to self defense and have no duty to retreat if you're in a place where you legally have a right to be.
other than that the law of self defense still applies. you may use deadly force to protect yourself or others when a reasonable person would believe that imminent serious physical injury or death is likely.
none of those elements appear to be present based on the article. A slap, even if it did occur, is not likely to rise to the level of SERIOUS physical injury considering he had no injury.
