ugly as hell, disruptive to the natural environment, and they take up land that otherwise could be used for something else, like a water park or go-kart track or something.
solar is the way to go. not big dumb solar farms, but smaller installations like rooftop solar or even parking lot installations. all the flat rooftops in urban areas are just collecting heat and wasting space. put solar arrays up there and offset the energy usage for that building and surrounding buildings. get enough of them and they'll supplement a significant percentage of that city's power needs without having to build big transfer stations and power lines that span the entire country.
