We certainly have some socialist aspects to our government. It is also not a pure democracy. That being said, most large governments that claim to be socialist end up using that as a cover for a small group of wealthy people who run everything and make their money off of the masses, all the while selling socialism to the people to keep them compliant. See Russia and China as great examples.
