They will have lost a year of player control for nothing. If they had waited a few weeks they could have all called him up to get significant major league experience and he would have gained some seasoning down at AAA in the interim.

The pressure on him now has to be huge. If he was struggling down in AAA no one would notice. More than likely he would still be tearing it up down there and gaining valuable experience.
