Recovery was going well, but a couple days before I was to have my sutures removed, one of them popped and immediately started bleeding like crazy. Drove straight to the emergency room and had it cleaned and bandaged. That night, it started swelling up and hurting like crazy, so I went to the Ortho Institute the next morning and they immediately performed another orthoscopic surgery to clean out a staph infection. Then I was admitted to the hospital for four days and had a PICC line inserted. If you don't know what a PICC line is, it's basically an IV on steroids, where a tube is inserted in your arm and threaded up into a large vein near your heart. It's used to administer antibiotics constantly over an extended period of time (30 days in my case). Needless to say, it was a hassle and a half, both for me and my wife. Everything turned out fine, but infections can be a real b-tch. In fact, my wife's late boss died from a MRSA infection following intestinal surgery.
