Just before I was eligible for the draft the State took authority from the County draft board, because the sons of prominent and politically connected local families weren't getting draft notices while less prominent men were drafted. I remember my Dad all of a sudden began calling the Vietnam War a republican war. He had said nothing about the draft or the war, while LBJ was escalating throughout his terms. He had served two years in the Korean War and spent his share of time up on the front facing the Chinese and Norks.
