Richmond Police New Release:
On the evening of June 1, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the Richmond Police Department responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a group of aggressive motorcyclists surrounding a blue Chevrolet pickup truck travelling eastbound along Highway 10 and exit onto Spartan Drive. The reporting party advised that a motorcyclist displayed a firearm during the altercation.
An officer with the Richmond Police Department located the group and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The motorcyclists fled at high speeds, prompting a multi-agency pursuit involving the Ray County Sheriff’s Office, Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Higginsville Police Department.
The primary suspect, later identified as Tyler Joy, a 24-year-old male from Kansas City, Missouri, led officers on a high-speed chase reaching speeds of up to 121 mph through several jurisdictions. During the pursuit, Joy struck another agency's police vehicle while attempting to evade arrest. Law Enforcement Officers with the Richmond Police Department, Ray County Sheriff’s Office, Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Higginsville Police Department assisted with apprehending the suspect near I-70 after a short foot pursuit. A loaded pistol with an extended magazine was recovered at the scene.
Joy was found to have multiple active warrants, a suspended license, and was on probation for drug-related offenses. He also admitted to displaying a firearm during the initial altercation during booking. He was transported to Centerpoint Hospital in Independence, MO for evaluation before being booked into the Ray County Jail.
Tyler Joy was subsequently charged with Aggravated Fleeing (Felony D) and driving while revoked (Misdemeanor D) and no bond allowed.
The Richmond Police Department commends the Ray County Sheriff's Office, Lafayette County Sheriff's Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Higginsville Police Department for their coordination, cooperation and professionalism in safely bringing this dangerous situation to an end.
