Your point was that their team last year was actually a b12 roster, not an SEC one. Of course you probably felt that meant b12 teams (such as Texas, which bailed on the conference) could compete at the highest levels nationally and in the SEC. Another interpretation could have been the implication that their recruiting was hampered by their membership in the B12, and would be getting much better recruiting results while recruiting to the SEC.
Either way, his point was that their team last year wasn't really 'a Big 12 roster', but an NIL roster, presumably because of their deep pockets and the huge change in the landscape brought about by NIL. As a side note, I would add that they had announced at least a couple of years earlier that they were leaving the Big 12, so recruits knew that they would be competing on the big stage by last year, and NIL recruits from prior years knew that as well, and the newest batch of NIL recruits knew that for sure before signing on the dotted line.
Your reply to his reply did not address any of that. Instead, you linked to the playoff bracket last year showing that one could make the case that they finished in 3rd place nationally last year:
