typically responds well to radiation and chemotherapy. I'm sure its not pleasant, but it beats dying. Depending on the stage and location of the tumor, surgery after treatment might not be necessary. There are cases where the patient enters a watch and wait program and surgery is only scheduled if scans and blood tests indicate the cancer has returned. When surgery is needed to complete the cure, a bag might be only temporary. Surgeons can usually reconnect the colon ends and after it has mended and healed the bag can be removed.
