Sure we have two great players returning. But it is the step forward expected from Boat and Trent Pierce. If those two make the kinds of strides that are expected of them, this could be a very talented team. Not Top 10 good, but Top 20 and challenge for a top 5 spot in the conference. Boat was somewhere between the 35th and 19th highest rated senior two years ago. By comparison Ant was rated in the 70-80 range. And Trent Pierce was in the 80-112 range. They both took huge strides from Frosh to Soph season. Pierce seemed to run out of gas last season. The ultimate wild card is Trent Burns. Lots of developmental upside for the staff opposed to going all in on proved upper classmen. That is clearly the approach they have taken and I like it. Gates said Boat started early because he was so very good in practice, but for whatever reason it did not translate into in game performances.
