the last two years. People who actually understand basketball know that the NBA will give a 6'5" guard who can shoot a chance if he's willing to defend. This is exactly the kind of player who can thrive in a 3-and-D role in the league.

If Bates goes undrafted, he'll sign a free agent deal quickly after the draft.
