Many economists contend that public funding for stadiums isn't worth it, because sports tend to divert discretionary spending away from other forms of entertainment rather than generate new income.

On the flip side, there are several that argue the positive impact, particularly sport tourism has when it comes to economic impact and hosting events like the World Cup, All-Star Games, NFL Draft, etc...
