But still capture the house, there would have been at least two years of chaotic gridlock. If the GOP retained the Senate in 2022 then two more years. After that? I expect the 2024 race would have paired down to Nikki and Gavin. DeSantis would have gone in the frontrunner but he was exposed as not ready. Perhaps it would have been Haley expose him instead of Trump.
Let's say the Dems took the senate in 2020 or 2022. Trump would have been impeached for something, anything, making Pence the president. He would then have been considered the frontrunner for 2028 and would have probably outlasted Haley and DeSantis for the nomination. Again, against Newsome.
By the way, I won't handicap the GOP field for 2028, but if DeSantis runs he'll be much more polished than in the last campaign. He'll be a force if he decides to run. Let's see how Vance fares as VP.
