not yet seceded from the Union. Lincoln quickly moved troops from loyal northern States into Missouri to maintain Union control and prevent any support for the Confederacy. These troops immediately treated Missourians as disloyal enemy secessionists. They commenced to torment normal citizens with all manner of violations of civil liberties, including murder, torture, assault, arrests without charges, imprisonment without trial and confiscation of private property. Lincoln loyalists quickly ousted public office holders and government workers they deemed disloyal. Union troops systematically robbed banks and businesses, converting their assets to support the occupation. True Missourians should refuse to honor Abe Lincoln.
