is a poor definition of being first of all. Because you’ll look at existence and see another poor definition.

Descartes examined existence, I think therefore I am. The most basic position of being a human being.

What separates a human zygote from any other human tissue? It is potentiality. What is that potential? To develop into a conscious, thinking person. A state that does not exist at conception. A state of personhood that doesn’t develop until the earliest possible glimmers of consciousness are possible around the 6th month of pregnancy.

Even the Bible ties life to the first breath. The word for life (Leviticus 17:11) is nefesh or breath. The life (breath) is in the blood. The Bible doesn’t even grant the status of full personhood until birth.
