And they may fail. I'm no longer very optimistic, but talking is a big improvement. Putin and Russia aren't going anywhere. The neo-cons dream of regime change and breaking Russia up into little bits that can easily be exploited was always doomed to failure. The US needs to have some type of relationship with Russia going forward no matter what happens with Ukraine. And Putin won't live forever. He's been made the modern day Hitler, but who follows Putin could be worse.
