The Chinese government is heavily ramping up funding of science research. The US government is cutting back.

Businesses only fund research that they think will lead to profit, applied research. The basic research, which enables applied research, is funded by the government. Businesses aren’t going to just jump right in and pick up that funding. They are going to wait until Trump is out of office and his policies reversed.

In the interim, China will steam ahead.

Please explain why this message is being reported.
