Its often used in a conspiracy theory way, as in "we can't trust scientists anymore, and we don't believe the earth is getting warmer". That may not be your take, but it is common in the Trump group. A basic understanding of that would seem to lead most rational people to do something about it, if possible. Since we can rationally see from very basic science that human actions are responsible for at least a portion of the warming, it also seems rational to change those actions. I am not in the AOC camp (retro-fit every building to clean energy immediately), but I am also not in the camp of "lets just keep burning coal and oil, stick our heads in the sand, and pretend its not happening". Somewhere in the middle of that seems very rational: A gradual switch to more nuclear, solar, and wind energy, a gradual switch away from internal combustion cars, and keep making things that consume energy more efficient. Carbon capture may or may not have a future, seems much too early to tell, but I am certainly not against the research.
