Why is Trump fixated on bringing back a manufacturing economy from 50 years ago?

Even if truly "reciprocal" tariffs were warranted vs Germany or Japan or China, his "bring back the Rust Belt" end game makes zero sense, his expectations for how quickly that would occur, and his sledgehammer approach reflect massive incompetence.

Please explain why this message is being reported.
