the only reason some of that crap is in the goods for sale is because this country, unlike others, permits it.

No one talks about how "great" the EU is around this - but they do discuss how, miraculously, people can eat and drink many products in Europe which cause adverse reactions within them here in the US (e.g. pasta) or the large differences in ingredients between otherwise apparently equivalent products (like, orange Fanta, for example). And given most people source their food from commercial stores, telling them to simply avoid tainted products is a false choice.
