People can't watch on TV anymore, very easily at least. That's a long term problem and a short term issue. Short term, people don't/can't follow the team like they are used to doing. Long term, kids that should be building an interest in the team (and the sport) by watching aren't/can't tune in and they will lose them to other activities.

And none of this has anything to do with MLB's fundamental problems of generally being a boring game and having no parity or salary cap.
