Bohemian perhaps, but not hippie. And hippies were for the most part a watered down descendant to the Beat movement, folks like Ginsberg, Kerouac, Felinghetti, Cassidy. Curiously, the Grateful Dead never considered themselves hippies as much as Beat wannabes, at least according to the late great Jerry Garcia. In my view those guys were primarily Shamans bordering some form of mysticism and magic at their best and extremely competent musicians a their core. - - - - As for not supporting violence, that comes from the aspirational teachings of the Nazarene.
