To a small extent, yes. I am sure there are some that identify with her because she looks like them, just as there others who identify with or cheer for players that look like them. African american girls were drawn to Serena Williams in tennis. Nothing wrong with that. The racism angle has been overblown though. Magic and Bird came out together. Both were great players. Magic got more popularity and endorsements because he was more likeable, he had more charisma. If the racism angle held that much water, Bird would have been much more profitable and popular. MJ didnt hurt for popularity, not did LeBron, whereas Jokic, while a great player, has nowehre near their popularity. He hasnt done what they did, but also doesnt have their personalities. Even if Jokic won 6 titles and passed MJs numbers someday, he wouldn't reach his popularity. Not all about color, even though its convenient for some to go there.
