It would certainly be my preference as a fan to not add players like Gray, Grill, Warrick, Vanover and Crews to our roster to block the development and create transfer situations from our actual players. I kind of get situations like Kassius Robertson where a guy played 4 years at a smaller school and wants to test/prove himself at this level but even then I don’t love it when they aren’t actual students. I do support adding guys like Bates and Mitchell who have multiple years and are only incoming juniors. I get that this is semi pro minor league basketball now but the model of cobbling a whole new team together from random parts is difficult to get excited about as a fan and it’s hard to see how we would ever have any memorable players again using this approach.
We have a lot of good young talent on the roster that are actual college kids. Certainly a full roster full across all positions. Many will have a lot of bumps on their way towards developing into a finished product. That is ok and supposed to be part of the college fandom experience. Much prefer that than seeing them get pushed to the bench for a 23 year old rent a semi professional adult for a season.
