'NIL contract' thing is totally overblown.
Not only are there rarely any contracts involved, those select few who do have contracts are seeing such small sums of money that no matter how the contract is worded, the amounts wouldn't act as an incentive anyway.
Now, I'm headed off with the team so we can cash checks and enjoy a lil Baskin Robbins ice cream, satisfied with a year well paid and so happy the stress of 'post-season' was short-lived.
