First off Gates isn't the answer. His team collapsed down the stretch. Total and utter collapse. They wouldn't even have beaten Miss State had they not played the night before. The tape on Mizzou teams grabbed that and good coaches figured out how to beat them. Gates had no answer.
Gate is good at recruiting and is great talking up the program to the media. But he's missing the biggest piece... he's clearly not an XO guy. He's getting out-coached and unless he drags in top talent he's going to lose every time.
He should be fired after the 2026 season if...
1) He has another losing season ?
2) Makes the tournament gets bounced first game again
3) Has an overall winning record but doesn't make the NCAA tournament
4) NO he shouldn't be fired no matter what the program is on the right track even if they don't make the NCAA tournament.
